The Blog Reaper Awaits

August 25, 2008

Man, it’s been awhile since I have posted anything.  A friend of mine, who shall remain nameless, has threatened to reap my blog due to my lack of inspired writing.

I have been absent for quite some time as I have been feeling an incredible lack of inspiration (however, I somehow still have a steady flow of readers). Yes, much has happened, but these fingers just couldn’t type everything that has been in my head.  They sucumbed to being overwhelmed and simply stopped. Perhaps this is simply representative of my mind and body.

The end of July marked the end of my time with Opera New Jersey and 13 months of separation from my husband, home and dearest friends.  Those 13 months included singing in Austria, New York and New Jersey interspersed with the personal loss of my brother and my husband’s grandmother 3 weeks later.  While thrilling, exciting and career-promoting, it has been a hard run.  And I’m tired.  As a dear friend of mine in the opera world said, “You’ve just finished the hockey season, you’re hoisting the Stanley Cup. You need a break.”

And he’s right.

Audition season for the upcoming year is quickly approaching. My list of possible auditions for which to apply has grown to about 20 and the season hasn’t even hit full force.  I have 3 auditions in the next 2 weeks.  And I’ve only had a couple weeks off.  I don’t mean to sound as if complaining, because indeed, I am very thankful for the opportunities to audition and the chance to further my opera career, but I’m beat.  A little more than 2 weeks off would’ve been nice, but alas, this is my career choice that comes with much sacrifice and hardwork.

So I’m digging in again. My cords are flapping daily, my scores are open, and my fingers are back at the keyboard.
